Brief Introduction of 12 Surface Treatment Processes on Metal

Metal surface treatment can not only significantly enhance the corrosion resistance, wear resistance, appearance, and cleanliness of metals, but also meet specific functional requirements, improve coating adhesion, reduce the coefficient of friction, enhance biocompatibility, and meet regulatory and standard requirements. These treatment processes are widely used in modern industry and are crucial for improving the quality and performance of products. Today, we will provide brief introduction of 12 surface treatment.

Description

Definition & Application

Ref. Picture

Brushing

-Definition: A surface finish that creates linear patterns on the metal surface through mechanical friction. This process can enhance the aesthetic appeal and provide a non-reflective finish.

-Application: Commonly used for decorative purposes and to provide a non-reflective surface.

Roller Texturing

Definition: A process where specific textures are applied to the metal surface using rollers.

Application: Used for creating unique surface patterns for aesthetic purposes.

Sandblasting

Definition: A process that uses compressed air to propel abrasive materials (such as sand or aluminum oxide) at high speed onto the metal surface to create a roughened or textured finish.

Application: Often used for surface preparation before coating or painting to remove contaminants and provide a better surface for adhesion.

Polishing

Definition: A process that uses abrasives and polishing tools to create a smooth and shiny surface. The process can range from coarse to fine polishing.

Application: Used to enhance the appearance and improve the corrosion resistance of stainless steel.

Water Transfer Printing

Definition: A decorative process where a printed film is transferred onto the metal surface using water.

Application: Used for applying complex designs and patterns to metal surfaces.

Laser Engraving

Definition: A process that uses a laser beam to remove material from the surface, creating a design or pattern.

Application: Ideal for creating precise and detailed designs, logos, or identification marks.

Etching

Definition: A process that uses chemicals to remove material from the surface to create a design or pattern.

Application: Used for creating intricate designs and patterns on metal surfaces.

Spraying

Definition: A process where paint or other coatings are applied to the metal surface using a spray gun.

Application: Used to provide a protective or decorative coating.

Electrophoretic Deposition

Definition: A process where a coating is applied to the metal surface using an electric field to deposit paint particles evenly.

Application: Provides a uniform and corrosion-resistant coating.

Oxidation

Definition: A process that forms an oxide layer on the metal surface, typically through chemical or electrochemical means.

Application: Enhances corrosion resistance and can provide a decorative finish.

Plating

Definition: A process where a thin layer of metal is deposited on the surface of another metal using an electric current.

Application: Improves corrosion resistance, wear resistance, and appearance.

PVD Coating

Definition: A process where a thin layer of material is deposited on the metal surface in a vacuum using physical methods.

Application: Provides a hard, wear-resistant, and decorative finish.
